Hello!

We’re starting off this week’s newsletter with the wacky, wonderful way that Saturday Night Live explains the ‘magic of the electoral college.’

The show showcased three families enjoying holiday meals and discussing politics in San Francisco, CA; Charleston, SC, and Atlanta, GA.
The takeaways:
(1) we have more in common than we think
(2) the votes of these three families don’t really matter, because CA, SC and GA are not “swing states”.

“Remember the 1 percent – the richest Americans? Meet the 2 percent – the most powerful Americans. They’ll pick the President in 2020. They’re not billionaires. They’re not political bosses. They’re average voters, except for two things. First, they are “truly persuadable” voters who are undecided and up for grabs in the presidential race. Second, they live in just six states, one of which is North Carolina. If you don’t like this small slice of Americans being so powerful, blame the Electoral College.”
